WCF FAQ - Truths and Misconceptions
Faith-Based Foundation
Q: WCF is a Faith based foundation. What Faith and Bible beliefs are the basis for your bible teaching?
We believe in the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, and we seek to share this powerful message with all those who will hear it and, above all, believe it. Our summary of Scriptural principles is provided on our website, following the example of the Apostle Paul.
Q: Do you do other work than promoting scriptural teaching?
We aim to encourage faith that transforms lives. We do that in many ways. We offer humanitarian aid to those in need around the world, but in ways that open their hearts to a need that transcends material need. We provide practical faith resources to our community to encourage lifelong trust in God. We sponsor youth programs to instill faith for life.
Q: Is WCF a church?
We are not. We are a charitable foundation registered in the US with the IRS. We are anchored in the Christadelophian community, and our work spans the community around the world.
Q: What do you mean by a Faith Journey?
Faith is a journey we take across a lifetime. It represents our deepening relationship with God and His Son. It shows how faith strengthens and is not simply a static base of knowledge. It describes how trust in God and Jesus allows God to transform our character day by day.
All the emphasis on Faith is confusing. There are too many WCF programs with the word 'Faith' in them.
It may seem confusing but Faith is absolutely essential to salvation. “Without faith it is impossible to please Him.” Heb 11:6 This is why promoting faith is central to all WCF’s initiatives.
Christadelphians
Q: Who are the Christadelphians?
The Christadelphians are a Christian group that was founded around the time of the Civil War. They take spiritual guidance from the Bible, God’s message to humankind, and the saving message it contains. There are Christadelphian churches (“ecclesias,” to emphasize the people and not the building). The overriding aim is to live faithful lives and follow the beautiful example of Jesus.
Q: There are different fellowships and groups of Christadelphians around the world. Which ones do you support?
WCF is committed to encouraging faith in all quarters of our communities around the world. Our Lord expects us to show his love to all who seek the kingdom of God.
Q: Is WCF an Unamended or Central Christadelphian organization?
We are focused on the faith that can transform people’s lives, not individual labels. Our work touches people across the globe and across fellowships. Many people tell us that we connect believers in ways more traditional channels have not.
Q: Is WCF trying to unify the different groups and fellowships of Christadelphians?
While WCF is happy to support people and ecclesias of all fellowships, addressing the community’s unity issues are outside our mission.
Q : WCF sometimes addresses challenging questions or presents more than one side of an issue. WCF can be then be perceived as humanist and non-traditional , so why does WCF do this on occasion?
Many in our faith community, especially our youth, are being pulled in many directions. WCF believes it is important to provide a safe space for people to express diverse opinions on matters that are not foundational doctrines essential for salvation. Providing such a space does not mean endorsing any one particular point of view. It is simply an acknowledgement that people have an inner need to explore and question one's faith. There are many scriptural examples of people who did this, including Abraham, Moses, David, Job, Peter, Jonah etc. Such discovery makes faith stronger in the end.
WCF is sometimes perceived as undermining traditional 'reunion' efforts by being active in both the Amended and Unamended communities. Doesn’t this just ignore the problem and undermine ongoing unity efforts?
WCF strongly supports the concept of Unity in the Christadelphian community. It is well outside of the mission of WCF, however, to take sides or interfere with any reunion discussions or efforts. WCF is steadfast in not publicly commenting on particular reunion efforts or taking a stand on them. WCF considers its primary objective to be strengthening individual and community Faith through deeper trust in God's sovereignty .
Q: Does WCF support non-Christadelphian people, groups?
Following our Lord’s command, we show love and faith to all we encounter. In particular, our Touch-to-Teach program supplies food, shelter, and school education to those in greatest need around the world–all with the hope of opening their hearts to the transforming power of putting faith in God and Jesus. We also share faith through YouTube videos, a bold new effort to share the power of faith and the gospel message to those who are seeking.
Q: Are all the directors and workers of WCF Christadelphian?
Our directors are from the Unamended, Amended and CGAF fellowships. Our volunteer team (now numbering more than 50 individuals) are all Christadelphians.
Williamsburg
Q: What does Williamsburg have to do with WCF ?
WCF was founded nearly a half century ago by a group of visionary leaders who saw the need to fill critical faith gaps in our community. That vision and the spirit that animated it coalesced in Williamsburg, Virginia. To recognize that initial start, they included the place in the foundation’s name. We have no enduring relationship with Williamsburg per se.
Q: Is WCF’s primary mission to send White Fields missionaries overseas?
For more than 25 years, WCF has been an active partner with Mission Hubs in South Africa, India and Southeast Asia. We have helped fund those hubs, and have also sponsored White Fields workers there to advance the outreach work. However, Touch-To-Teach is only one of our programs to encourage stronger faith. Others are focused on renewing our community and inspiring faith in youth.
Q: Where are WCF staff and directors physically based?
We are a virtual organization of enthusiastic workers from around the world. We use the power of Zoom and other digital technologies to coordinate our efforts and implement programs efficiently.
Mission
Q: What exactly is WCF’s Mission?
ENCOURAGING FAITH THAT TRANSFORMS. WCF supports a lifelong faith that lets God transform our life. WCF recognizes the deepest human need transcends material needs. Real faith comes from our heart and entrusts our life to God’s loving hands. When we put faith in God, He molds our character to be more like Him and blesses us for good. As scripture reminds us, "Without faith it is impossible to please God" (Heb. 11:6). We believe that encouraging an enduring trust in God is the highest calling a charity can have.
Q: Is WCF’s primary mission to preach the Gospel overseas?
Today, WCF, focuses on cultivating faith around the globe —whether in impoverished or western countries.
Q: Is WCF’s primary mission to perform humanitarian acts of service?
WCF does a lot of humanitarian work. But WCF’s mission transcends meeting physical needs; it is about inspiring a faith of the heart that cultivates lasting, eternal change and transforms our lives for better, now and potentially eternally. As scripture reminds us, "Without faith it is impossible to please God" (Hebrews 11:6).
Q: Does WCF work to influence change in traditional church / ecclesial practices (ie: gender/fellowship issues)?
WCF’s only focus is on positive and uplifting initiatives to encourage a “faith that transforms”. WCF is a foundation and not a church, so it does not enter into ecclesial matters. WCF highly respects ecclesial autonomy in dealing with potentially controversial issues.
Q: Is WCF active outside of North America?
WCF was founded in North America, but its activities have expanded steadily across the globe. Today, WCF has active projects in Vietnam, Philippines, Cambodia, India, South Africa, and more.
Q: What is unique to the work of WCF that is not done by other foundations and charities ?
WCF works hard to identify and fill faith-building voids that other foundations and charities are not addressing. Here are some good examples: faith-inspiring music programs; a faith-growth program for young adult;, an online bible school during Covid; global networking of faithful believers through our Mountaintop Cafe; The Garden Outreach program in North America, showing the love of Christ to our local communities; YouTube Channel for innovative outreach, and many more.
Q: Is WCF trying to convert people to the Christadelphian religion?
While WCF would love people to join the Christadelphian community, it is not our main goal. WCF is happy to bring anyone closer to God and his son and let them choose whether or not to join the Christadelphian community.
Q: WCF talks about Touch to Teach. What is that?
WCF believes in the teaching method Jesus used making a strong, human connection with people before you teach them the gospel. Accordingly, our approach is to use humanitarian relief work to show the love of Christ and then teach the powerful gospel message. In other words, Touch to Teach.
Q: What do you mean when you talk about White Fields?
White Fields is an expression taken from the gospel of John, where Jesus says “Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.” (4:35) In short, White Fields refer to mission areas that are receptive to the gospel message. WCF’s support for outreach in Vietnam is a prime example. Over 15 years, the number of brethren there has grown from zero to nearly 500.
Q: Does WCF need more volunteers to further their mission? How do I volunteer?
WCF has more work than hands. We always welcome more volunteers. You can let us know your interest on our web site at https://www.wcfoundation.org/volunteer, or just contact a WCF Director or Worker.
Financial
Q: Why should I donate to WCF when there are so many other good charities to give money to?
WCF’s work is unique. The vast majority of our work fills many voids in our community that other charities do not address. (Inspiring music, innovative outreach, youth programs, community service programs, ecclesial build up program, among others.) We are also committed to the faith principle: Inspiring faith is the most important work we can do for our Lord. WCF works globally to promote faith in our Youth and Young Adults, in addition to showing the love of Christ in areas of poverty and need(Touch- to-Teach).
Q: Does WCF have an endowment to support its funding?
WCF has no endowment to help fund its budget. However, having one would lend stability and thus be very welcome.
Q: What % of donations go to administration costs of WCF?
Many charities have administrative costs in excess of 15%. We are especially conscious of using our funds wisely: Our annual administrative costs run between 3 and 5%.
Q: Does WCF partner with any other charities ?
While there are no formal partnerships, WCF works in tandem with CBMs around the world and in some cases shares funding of some larger projects in South East Asia. WCF also works through some local charities in countries like South Africa and India.
Q: Does WCF overlap with the work of other Christadelphian Charities?
WCF works to fill the voids in our faith community that other charities are not addressing. Our Touch to Teach program bears some limited correlation with programs offered by Agape in Action, Meal a Day, and CBM. But we operate in different areas of the globe. Some of the other charities focus on humanitarian relief and others focus only on preaching. We are unique with our focus on inspiring a lifelong faith that transforms lives–and with our approach to use human aid as a pathway to teaching the gospel message.
Q: What is the annual budget for WCF?
Approximately $1.7 Million US Dollars. This has been stable for many years up until 2025, when it was reduced to $750K due to lower available funds. Plans for the next few years take it back to the traditional levels.
Q: Can I donate stock to WCF?
Yes , this is an excellent way to donate. This approach takes advantage of the US tax regulations that reduce capital gains taxes when stock is donated directly to a recognized charity.
Q: How can I contribute to WCF?
There are many ways to donate including online, mailed cheque, credit cards, legacy bequests, qualified charitable donation from an IRA, donor advised funds, Stocks and bonds, and real estate.
Q: Can I get a tax deduction outside of the United States?
A US tax receipt can only be applied against US income such as dividend income from US corporations. While WCF is considering applying for charitable tax status in Canada, the process is somewhat problematic and the timing is currently uncertain. All donations outside of the US are most welcome but would be considered a 'pure' donation, without personal advantage.
WCF was widely recognised as being well funded; what has happened?
As shown in our Invest in Faith report, giving has dropped nearly in half in 2025. We had to make some significant cuts in programs to adjust. The faith needs in our Community and beyond remain just as big, if not bigger, than they were. As a result, we are mounting this intentional campaign to sustain our commitment to encouraging a faith that transforms lives.
Can I target my giving to causes I care about, not into a black hole where I have no say?
WCF is happy to honour all earmarks on donations for expenditures that have board approval. Transparency is important to WCF, so all donations made to the WCF general fund are carefully allocated to be spent on programs visible to all donors
Spending Oversight
Q: Who or what group oversees WCF’s program of work?
WCF is committed to robust oversight, a cornerstone principle in our bylaws. The Board of Directors is charged with fiduciary and operational oversight. This includes in-person visits to the recipient of funds where possible, insistence on submitted documentation for all expenditures, and high standards for the reporting on how funds were spent and how the project had its intended effects. WCF also insists on strong ecclesial oversight of local activities where applicable. WCF books are reviewed and certified yearly each by an independent Chartered Account Firm and audits are done as required.
Q:How does WCF ensure my donations are spent responsibly?
WCF’s board of directors are very diligent to ensure donor funds are spent wisely. Administration costs are kept to a minimum. Volunteers carry out the vast portion of our work; we are constantly recruiting additional volunteers. Books are reviewed by an independent auditor each year.
Q: Does WDC compensate the members of its Board of Directors?
All Directors and Board Members are 100% volunteer. None are financially compensated in any way for their time or contributions. All Directors see their work as “in service to our Lord.”
Q: Are the workers for WCF paid or volunteers?
The vast majority of WCF workers are volunteers. There are two full employees of WCF, to ensure responsible administration and oversight of the many projects underway. In addition, there are several part time paid independent contractors for required administrative and project support. Long term White Field workers in the mission field are typically paid a modest stipend to cover their living expenses. There are up to 50 volunteers working for WCF at any given time to lead, manage and implement projects.
Q: WCF is trying to raise $3,500,000. Isn’t this excessive especially for a faith community of our size?
This is not an excessive amount given our depth of programming and global reach. Having funds to cover 2 years of expenses enables us to plan with confidence and to make and honor commitments of longer duration. Strengthening faith takes a lifetime--and we are committed to sustaining our programs to encourage faith around the world.
Other Questions
Q: One video you produced might be seen as providing a platform for political action. Does WCF represent Christadelphian traditional views on the subject or not?
The Political Involvement Video content was buffered by Biblical quotes reaffirming our traditional understanding--which was also made clear in all our communications with viewers who raised comments or questions. The video hoped to display our ability to hear the authentic views of our youth and our ability to participate in genuine discussion of the core Bible principles. As hoped, the video did spark several such discussions around North America.
Q: I already give to Agape in Action, so what would be the difference?
WCF’s focus and areas of operation are different. We are striving to encourage a transformative, lifelong faith both at home and abroad. Our model is centered upon developing trust and confidence in God. In short, while we have an important initiative that delivers humanitarian aid, our aim is to instill faith and meet that person's transcending spiritual needs.
