The weekly schedule here at Phnom Penh Cambodia is fairly busy! In addition to daily classes at the BEC (Bible Education Centre), we also teach Sunday school and provide outreach support to an underprivileged school, Trapeang Prasat province and both the Siem Reap and Sihanoukville Ecclesias. We have been blessed with many more fieldworkers from Australia in recent times and the increased numbers have allowed for more outreach chances.

April/May is very hot in Cambodia with the weather mainly between 35-40 and 50%-80% humidity! We are very grateful we are blessed to enjoy air conditioning at the BEC along with unlimited cold fresh fruit snacks. Sharing food is a large cultural custom here and enjoyed by all. Now the rainy season has started, and the torrential rainfalls/flooding are making the bad traffic even worse!

A standard day of teaching might look like the following: 5 classes throughout the day, attend either the girls or boy’s dorm for night class ending at 10pm. We currently have mainly new students living in the dorms. They receive free housing in exchange for attending Bible classes with mission workers and participating in the weekend activities. During girl dorm classes we have been studying an outline of the books of the bible and the importance of prayer. Recently I taught a 2-part class on the potter and clay, resulting in painted clay candlesticks the girls could put in their rooms. Anything crafty is especially enjoyed. We enjoy doing group prayers at the end of the night also!

The weekend starts with Friday night readings and BBQ, Saturday night seminar will either be an activity or a talk (alternating). Currently we are studying the soldier of Christ in Ephesians. Sunday will start with the neighbourhood kid’s Sunday school followed by memorial meeting. After we often have a shared lunch, with individual sis/bro classes happening during the ecclesial kid’s Sunday school class. Our weekend days are the fullest with more students being able to do classes during those days.

Sister class has now been running for just over a year and has been an encouraging change for those who attend. On average we may have 10-15 sisters/interested friends who attend. The classes have ranged from studying Proverbs 31, baking cake, making prayer jars, God’s love and clay creating. We have sisters from 5 different countries and these classes have helped close the cultural gap!

We pray that God will bless the efforts of the Khmer Ecclesias and He will provide mission workers continually as they are constantly needed and appreciated.
